The EAS-CAP
Industry Group (ECIG) is a coalition of Emergency Alert System equipment,
software and service providers.
The EAS-CAP Industry Group is working to develop a voluntary
profile for the interoperability of advanced Emergency Alert System (EAS)
capabilities in the United States using the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP).

ECIG Releases Approved EAS-CAP Implementation Guide
The EAS-CAP Industry Group has released its Recommendations for a CAP
EAS Implementation Guide (version 1.0). The ECIG Implementation Guide is intended to
facilitate the effective use and translation of the open, non-proprietary
Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) for the next generation of the broadcast
Emergency Alert System (EAS). The guide has been written to facilitate
the success of any CAP-to-EAS system, including existing and planned state,
local, territorial and tribal systems; the proposed IPAWS system, and
National Weather Service system. The Implementation Guide will be an important step
towards improving interoperability across agencies, jurisdictions, systems
and vendors, helping to ensure that the public benefits from improved
capabilities to communicate weather, civil, AMBER and other alerts via

ECIG Releases Draft EAS-CAP Implementation Guide, Opens
Public Comment Period
The EAS-CAP Industry Group has released draft Recommendations for a CAP
EAS Implementation Guide. ECIG also announces the opening of a two-week public comment period on the
Implementation Guide. Comments to the ECIG draft Implementation Guide can be
filed via the ECIG Public Discussion List. The draft Implementation

ECIG Begins Work on EAS-CAP Implementation Guide
The EAS-CAP Industry Group has begun work on a recommendation for an EAS-CAP
Implementation Guide. This guide is intended to provide the additional
details needed for developers of CAP/EAS products to generate and to display
CAP messages that are intended for broadcast on the EAS network in a
consistent and interoperable manner.

ECIG Welcomes DHS
S&T as Non-Voting Member
The EAS-CAP Industry Group welcomes the Department of Homeland Security,
Office for Interoperability and Compatibility, Science & Technology
Directorate (DHS S&T) as a non-voting member in ECIG. DHS will
observe the work of ECIG members in the creation of the EAS-CAP
Implementation Guide.

ECIG Accepting Applications for Membershiop
The EAS-CAP Industry Group is accepting applications for membership.
Applicants should meet ECIG's the core eligibility requirements, which
extend to those organizations that manufacture or develop devices that are
certified for use by FCC Part 11 EAS Participants within the context of the
formal operation of the Emergency Alert System, as well as organizations
that manufacture or develop software for the conversion of CAP messages for
use by FCC Part 11 EAS Participants within the context of the formal
operation of the Emergency Alert System.

of Directors. The five Directors, who hold a one year term, will be

ECIG Releases EAS-CAP Profile Recommendation
The EAS-CAP Industry Group – a broad coalition of equipment, software and
service providers to the Emergency Alert System - today announced that its
members have approved a profile for the effective use and translation of the
open, non-proprietary Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) for the next generation
of broadcast EAS.
The Industry Group will provide this profile as a recommendation to U.S.
governmental agencies and industry associations on the use of CAP for EAS
purposes, including the FCC, FEMA, National Weather Service, and other

Monday,
June 2, 2008 - The EAS-CAP Industry Group held its first meeting by
teleconference, establishing the overall objectives of the group. ECIG
members agreed on the mission of defining an interoperability profile within
CAP 1.1 that allows an EAS device to be able to receive a CAP alert from
anywhere, and render it into a consistent EAS message. Members at this
founding meeting included Digital Alert Systems, Hormann America, Monroe
Electronics, MyStateUSA, Sage Alerting Systems, SpectraRep, TFT, Trilithic.
